People have been losing their jobs for years now. The housing market has been in jeopardy for who knows how long. College students are not even able to get loans to pay for their classes anymore. Retail sales have been dropping all year. Why has it taken so long for economists to declare that we were in a recession?

Now what?
Interracial relationships have always been a controversial issue. There will probably always be people that will speak out against marrying outside on one's race but America is getting more tolerable with the issue as time passes. There were many attempts to pass a amendment banning miscegenation but it was not successful. Only 16 states had a law against it and in 1967 the Supreme Court ruled anti-miscegenation was unconstitutional. When these laws were removed interracial relationships became more common. I wonder if the fact that we have now elected a interracial man into the White House will help more in the acceptance of interracial couples.

Music to my ears...
Music is always changing. I am an old soul and love good classical music but I often wonder what the works of people like Judy Garland, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Louis Prima and Keely Smith would sound like with the synthesizer and a voice box. I also wonder what we would be listening to if those things did not exist today, Would Beyonce even phase us? Just because technology has taken us somewhere does not mean the old ways are bad, people enjoyed the above classical artists back then and still respect them today. But are they respected because of how popular they were then or does the music still really appeal to our generation's ear?

Some many elections later...
I feel like the act of being disenfranchised is an issue that some people feel was left back when African Americans first got the"right" to vote. I myself never really paid a lot of attention to it in the hear and now. This past election CNN constantly brought to light this issue of disenfranchisement and gave warnings of what to look for. Although, most of the tactics that were used seem obviously bogus to anyone who had the slightest common sense it was alarming to think that there are many people that will actually believe things like rain would postpone an election.

Ayo Technology...
It is hard to imagine a time with no television. Technology has made some major advances in the last couple of decades. Nowadays some people cannot even entertain themselves a full 24 hours without using something that needs to be plugged into a wall and transmit sometype of picture or sound. It is easy to forget even something as common as the television was not around when our grand parents and parents were young. The way my Great-Grandmother sits down with her coffee, kicks up her recliner chair and channel surfs, I would not believe that as a child the television in her house was unthought of. I think it would be interesting to experience things the old way, but only temporarily....bring on the technology!

There are 2 types of celebrities
People who become famous and people who become famous for something. One contains actors, tv stars, movie stars, olympians, etc. The other group contains criminals and victims or crime. One contains Brad Pitt and Michael Vic. Another contains people like Lance Armstrong and Michael Vic. Oh wait...neverminind. He's a gray area.
Have you seen this new show, Celebrity Rehab, on VH1? It is the best of both worlds. You get your 80's rockband singers and you get your 80's hate crime victim. I'm refering to Rodney King, who has become an alcoholic since his beating in the late 80's.
Another good example of the other kind of celebrity is...Monica Lewinsky who, after and incident with former President Bill Clinton, became an overnight celebrity. Because of this women, the second catagory is broken into 2 groups. People who become famous for something they do to someone or something they have done to them.

Movies of the 21st century...
8 years. Thats all there has been in this century. 8 years that have turned only a couple of really great movies. The Lord of the Rings...yeah. Harry Potter...before the 5th one came out...sure. But, now, we have newly recaptured idea that is ripping the hearts and draining the blood out of people all across this nation. Literally! What is it? Vampires. Twighlight...True Blood...Underworld...Van Helsing...My Gym Partner is a Vampire. (I sware I saw it on a TV schedule line up). What is this sudden interest in vampires?!
The answer is quite simple. This country's movie industry is running out of ideas. So, they are taking from the old and making them new. The Hulk? It sucked, because they used a pretty-mich no-name like Eric Bana. The Incredible Hulk? Better, because they used Edward Norton and Liv Tyler. The Punisher? Again, a pretty much no name. (Although, Rebecca Romeign was pretty hot at one time). The Punisher, Warzone? A no name, but people like it more because it follows the comic book character more.
Comic Book and Novels have become a forefront for movies in the 21st century. Where have all the good ideas gone?

Is Professional wrestling fake?...The story is finally answered...
It Pro Wrestling fake? You may think its easy to just say 'no', but it's not. As the son of a former professional wrestler, I can tell you, 'fake' is not the word that should be used. "Scripted" is a better word.
The action is real, but the outcome and the order of the moves is planned. The blood that you see come out of their foreheads is real, unless it comes from their mouth, more than likely.
The injuries that occur, in the old days, were more or less real. Now adays, if a wrestler is injured, they just work it into the storyline. Hey! Who knows? Could put some butts in the seats.
It's not a matter of real or fake, its a matter of "scripted" or "unscripted". It is scripted, but it is NOT fake.
My father has torn and broken bones.
Some people are doctors and get paid to mend bones and heal ailments. Wrestlers wrestle and get paid to entertain people.
Why do you think they call it Sports Entertainment instead of Sport? 'Cause its not a toss up to them...

What rock have home-schoolers been living under?
Home-school. Kids sit at home or in a controlled environment with a very, very small number of classmates, and do their assignments in a very timely fashion, away from the evils of the world. Come on, seriously?
A parent refuses to put her child through public schooling, because of the drug use, the lack of safety and the lack of education by sheltering them and teaching them only what THEY think should be taught.
Ladie, take the tit out of their mouth and let them make their own decisions, please! I get it. You want your child to get a good education and to be safe. But what is going to happen when they finally get out in the real world? They are going to get exposed to all that evilness you been trying to keep them from.
You gotta let them breathe that smog and take in that second hand smoke before they use their inhailer. You know why we dont have asthma that bad? Its partly because we've gotten used to it cause, guess what? We've been breathing it all our lives.
As a person who has a couple people he knows who were homeschooled, its kinda hard to ask a homeschooler why his/her parents would do such a thing.
Put 'em in a Private school if you're that scared? Oh, wait, they cost to much!
Someone please shed some light on this.

Bamboozled
One of the first black movies to come out during the motion picture take off era was the movie The Jazz Singer. It portrayed a black Jazz singer, played by a made up white male. In the late '90s, a movie was put out called Bamboozled, a reaction picture to that time. It stared 2 real black males brought in to be a part of show depicted the same kind of image portrayed in the movie from earlier decade. In the course of the movie, the two African Americans take over the show and basically say, "F-U, white man, and your forefathers for creating a mockery out of us."
Do think the message in that movie was supposed to be a concensus of what the African American population thought of The Jazz Singer, or the just the view of the two actors in the movie? Do you think think that the claucasion who, way back when, produced and distributed the TJS thought of what effect it would put on them and the black community, whether positive or negative?

I went to Public school all my life and enjoyed every mintue of it; so why is it that Private school has become the newest rage for young parents? Within the past 10 years, enrollment levels in private schools have almost doubledcausing a huge decrease in public school levels. Why is this happening? Is it because of the population jump we've had within the past decade? Or is our public school system beginning to crash? Could our economic downfall be a factor in the suffering of public education?

America: For The Government, By The Government
It seems that especially now-a-days (though not exclusively by any stretch of the Imagination) the governments main job is to keep themselves and their constutents well paid. This concept of being a politician as a job is not what the founding fathers intended, in fact George Washington was outspokenly against it. In the earlier years of this country being a politician was a side job. Every one who was a politician in the House or Senate met for a set period of time during the year then returned to their towns and continued their real job. The Politicians have become too familiar with loop holes and easy money that they don't look out for the people they are supposed to be representing. Instead the people of America have become a bank with no limit on with draws, in the eyes of our so called Representatives.

It all led up to the Olympics and their opening ceremony. Some say they were Displaying thier power to the world to cause fear. Strip Clubs here and there....
While doing some research, I came across a bit of interesting news; strip clubs are only legal in certain counties. For example, why is it illegal in Leon county to own and opperate a strip club when a person can drive 20 mintues away to a different area and get an up-close and person view of an individuals "goods". They sould make it a state law strip clubs are allowed or banned? To many kids make the famous 18th birthday drive to the stripclub even if it takes them several hours. Its dangerous and if they were abolished then maybe young adults wouldn't feel the need to take the risky drive; Or, if they were readily available, it might stop kids from taking long, night time trips.

Should we keep the Electoral College?
For those of you who don't know, the Electoral College is misleading. What we elect are representatives and they elect who is best suited to hold the title of Commander-in-Chief. What I don't understand is why the ballot says the canidates names on it if were technically not voting for them. We vote the for the party and the party votes for the President. Congress needs to drop the act and stop misleading the American population.
Why do we need religion?
Back in the day, when Europe ruled the Earth and the new world hadn't ben discovered, religion played a big role in the establishment of laws; things were extremely inhumane and very underdeveloped. So why id it that the America's(when they established freedom) decided to base their laws on the same beliefs they were trying to escape? Were they better off never having any type of religion? Even though the US government was established on religious beliefs, should they abolish all religion laws to respect the new age of hte 21st century?

What about the Irish?
I've heard about the struggles of Black People through out the ages, The Indians have been persecuted by the whites for a while, got it. Women where looked down on only until recently. These are problems that have plauged Americas past, yet no one has taught as vigorously as the other groups about the struggle the Irish endured upon entering this country. The Irish were persecuted as much as the Black People in their day. They weren't allowed to get jobs, they had to band together to even survive in this country. I don't really know why I don't hear about the Irish struggle in the old and new country, but those people had a rough run that was just as bad as many of the other groups we are taught about.

Gangsta Rap: Whats the real problem
Gansta Rap started around the late 80's and took over the nineties. This music is credited for the inspiration of many killings around America. Now thats bad and all but the real embarrassment is when kids who have no ounce of thug in them attempt to walk with a "strut" and say they're packin a "Gat". This is a blight on our society and I believe it all stems from Gangsta Rap, the genere that creates the most posers.

Some people believe that there were two gunman involved in the assassination of JFK. Certain evidence shows it hard to believe that both bullets could have entered JFK's body in the direction that they did, from where Lee Harvey Oswald was perched inside the book depository. Scandals, Lies and Resignations...
For those of you who don't know, the watergate scandal was based on the break in committed by 5 men to obtain wire tapings stored in the watergate office complex. THe tapes in aquestion were recordings of secret conversations held between the president with his closest staff. Out of fear that information from these conversations would leak out, the Presidents cabinet hired 5 men to retain the recordings. After the trial, Congress gave President Nixon the choice of resigning or facing impeachment. Why would congress allow something as severe as a Presidential conspiracy go unpunished? Even after his resignation, should Nixon have been put on trial as just a US citizen?

Recounting Votes Sucks
The presidential election of the year 2000 was a big mess. Thanks to our beautiful state of Florida, the presidential race was almost jeopardized. Many people believe that the recount was rigged by Jeb Bush, who was the Governor of Florida at the time, in order to benefit his brother. They have now started the system of early voting in Florida in order to avoid mishaps such as the 2000 recount. Do you think a program such as this will benefit the count in the present election?
Are the Pressures of the Presidency to Much?
Are the obligations of the Presidency too much for one man to handle? Many experts in the field of politics feel that our country should be run on a partys beliefs and not souly on the intentions of one man; in some ways, these people hold reason. Take, for example, both the Clinton and Roosevelt scandals. Both of these Presidents left legitmate impacts on the economy, so why did they decide to commit adultery? Was it the pressure that drove them to it?... or basic human instinct?

Roles of Men in Parenting in American Society
I got fired up today thinking about this in my Sociology class. Early is the history of the United States, children were considered property of their fathers. Flash forward a few hundred years and we've seen a radical shift in the opposite direction. My parents are divorced, as are my wife's. We both were "awarded" in the custody of our mothers. In fact, according to www.childrensjustice.org, 37.9% of fathers do not have visitation rights.
Take a look at modern media. Many parenting magazines are overwhelmingly targeted towards women. Turn on your television, channels featuring parenting advice or parenting news also target women for their audience.
How did we get here? I am the father of a beautiful eight month old boy. Obviously, I am a student, while my wife works outside the home. That means a great deal of traditional parenting relies on me. I pick Jack up from daycare, take him home, feed him, play with him, read to him and sing to him. My wife, Christine, is also involved with Jackson but feeding him in the mornings and getting him ready for daycare. We do a pretty good job of splitting up our responsibilites so that neither of us is overwhelmed. We have a great life together.
But many families don't work out. In many cases, it is just assumed the child will end up with the mother. Is this because women are fundamentally better parents? I don't buy that argument. I believe fathers are just as capable to raise a child as mothers. We also know that men tend to make more money than women. So is the discrepancy in court awarded single mother households due to income or lifestyle? I don't think so.
I believe ultimately the discrepancy lies in the traditional norms that women are the ones responsible for raising children and that child custody hearings mirror that norm. Unfortunately, for the children involved it's a no win situation. Ultimately, it is my belief that children are best raised in a home with two loving parents, something that divorces rarely accommodate.

I know everybody have different point of views and they are going to vote the way they want. I just don't understand why people have to ridicule other people about the way they see things. My Favorite Americans
Okay, there's no way I could put together a list of great Americans and do enough justice to get them all on here. So consider this a small sampling of Americans and feel free to add your own.
Benjamin Franklin- I kinda have to start with at least one of the founding fathers, don't I? What didn't this man do? In addition to co-founding the greatest country on Earth, he was a scientist, author, politician, satirist, and inventor.
Abraham Lincoln- Of course I'm going there. Gotta give it up for a fellow Kentuckian. Many historians consider him to be the finest President in American history. We all know what he did and the price he paid.
Henry Ford- The man that founded a now floundering company was instrumental in building the production capacity of the United States. He is the father of the assemble line and, in a time when the economy was terrible shocked America by raising his workers' pay to five dollars per day, effectively doubling their pay.
Walt Disney- There's not a single person in this class that hasn't felt his effect. He truly wanted to create the "Happiest Place on Earth". I had the priviledge of working for the Disney Company several years ago- this isn't just a slogan. The man had a direct effect on making billions of children (and adults) happy. I long to take my son to Walt Disney World for the first time.
Ernest Hemingway- My favorite American author was much more than that. He was a journalist and avid sportsman as well. His novels and short stories are legendary, but I think he is best remembered as a "man's man". He traveled the globe hunting and fishing, romanced movie stars and was loved the world over.
John Wayne- Speaking of tough men, John Wayne was the quintessential man of his time. Or at the very least, the man many men wanted to be. The characters in the movies he played were the template of what American men were taught to be: tough, honest, noble, good with women, and rarely lost a fight. It's no coincidence that his final film, The Shootist, mirrors his life.

Eras of U.S. History I Would Have Liked to Lived In
Every now and then I see a movie or picture or read an article about time in American history that draws my attention and fascinates me. I wonder what it would have been like to have lived there and what I missed out on. For some reason, I continuously come back to the same three eras in United States history:
1. Los Angeles, 1950s- What's not to love about the Golden Age of Hollywood? Los Angeles itself was still a growing city, luring people westward daily. This was the American Dream at its prime; we had just won the war and all was right in the world. I'm fascinated with the cut on the suits that men war and how women were really coming into their own. The music, jazz and swing, dominated the airwaves and I would have been able to see the birth of rock and roll. Think L.A. Confidential.
2. Utah and Colorado Territories, 1850s- Oh, how I would have loved to have seen the frontier! To be a mountain man as the United States expanded westward. To have survived without the conveniences and trappings of modern life. To hunt native wildlife before it was destroyed. To wake in the mornings and not breathe in smog filled air. It would have been a tough life, but it would have been a good life. Think Jeremiah Johnson.
3. Seattle, 1990- Something I barely missed out on. I cannot recall the amount of times I wish I were but six or seven years older and living in Washington around 1990. What an amazing cultural time! The music, grunge and alternative, the coffee, the SFW lifestyle. This is probably the era I regret most seeing, because I missed it by thismuch. Think Singles.

Reconstruction Era South vs. Post WWI Germany
Taking this class has helped me refine a thought I have long held- the story of Reconstruction Era South parallels that of post WWI Germany.
Think about it- both nations had suffered utter defeat at the hands of their enemies. Both were forced to sign unconditional surrenders, the South at Appomattox, Germany at the Treaty of Versailles. In both cases, each nation was forced to pay reparations in one form or another. The South had to ratify the Fourteenth Amendment, while Germany was forced to repay the Allies for money spent fighting the war. Both nations were also subject to legal and military restrictions as well.
The South and Germany both felt humiliated before those that defeated them. Southerners would feel a long distrust and animosity with the North that continues to this day. Germans resented the treaty and felt open hostility against the rest of Europe that would later resurface in WWII.
The similarities get even uglier. Both the remnants of the Confederate states and the nation of Germany would find a convenient scapegoat for their troubles- blacks in the South and Jews in Germany. In each respective case, the blacks and Jews were the most powerless class. Easy to blame, racial and ethnic violence would begin to spread. We see the uprising of the Ku Klux Klan and rise of the Nazi party.
Here's the scary thought- what separates these nations is a great leader. In Germany, a charismatic firebrand by the name of Adolf Hitler would unite the country and in a short time, turn it into a world power once more. Despite the slogan "the South Will Rise Again", it never did. I believe this is because there was never a leader to galvanize the Old South and challenge the North for states' rights.
The Civil War was a long time ago, but I believe the results of Reconstruction could have been a bit more frightening when you compare it to the aftermath of WWI.

The Rosewood Massacre
In January of 1923, over a period of a few days a town was distroyed at the hands of an angry mob. Rosewood, Florida was located near what is now the town of Perry. In January of 1923 the town was largly populated by african-americans. The town had schools, churches and business's, mostly developed and maintained by the african american residents there.
A white woman accused a black resident of Rosewood of rape, as happened alot during that part of our nations history. In response to this accusation an angry mob went into Rosewood, murdered several residents and burned the town to the ground. There was a railroad that ran nearby and some residents were saved by jumping onto the passing trains.
In 1993 a document was prepaired and given to the Florida Board of Regents for review. This document was full of first hand survivor accounts of the attacks on Rosewood that fatefull January. In 1994 the Florida legislature gave a monitary settlement to the survivors and relative's of survivors for the lost land ownership and the distruction of their lives at the time. I don't think this particular incident in history is discussed enough. If you ask most anyone, no matter what their age, would not know where Rosewood, Florida is/was or what happened there. This town and its residents, surviving and dead deserve their place in history and we should never forget the awful things that happened there.

Indian Removal Act- really such a bad thing?
Alot has been written about the Trail of Tears and how "Native Americans" were forcibly removed from their ancestral lands to locations farther west. While I don't condone the manner in which it was done, I wonder - "Was it such a bad thing?"
In order to assess the situation, one must remember that the United States in the early 19th century was in a state of expansion. The United States wanted access to lands controlled by various Indian tribes. To me, I see this as nothing more than a war in which one nation takes lands from another nation. Native Americans were given a peaceful option- join the United States or move elsewhere. Those Indians who chose not to join the U.S. knew their options and made their decisions thusly.
The Indian Removal Act paved the way for further expansion west for the United States, ultimately leading to the country as we now know it.
To put myself in the shoes (or moccassins) or the Native American people, it was a horrible time. But thus is the nature of war.

Marbury v. Madison, or, John Marshall was a sneaky, crafty genius
You may not know it, but much of the judicial branch's power comes from a very sly opinion that Chief Justice John Marshall made way back in 1803. In it, he established the power of judicial review, or the court's ability to determine if a law was constitional. The interesting thing about this case is that the court struck down a law where Congress tried to grant more power to the Court. The Court held that Congress cannot pass an unconstitutional law, and this law was unconstitutional because Congress could not control the power of the judiciary. So, in essence, in one ruling Marshall relinquished the small amount of power that Congress "granted" and instead took a huge swath of power for the Court moving forward--the power to review and strike down acts of Congress.
Pretty brilliant, indeed.

Lets talk SEX!
..and just to make things controversial, let's talk about gay sex.
The source for this entry is just my own sociological study of character development and the eventual affects on a child of his/her adolescent atmosphere. I wander to myself, and wander I will until I make the effort, say in a graduate thesis, to do the research and provide evidence to support a result, what affect does growing up in a homosexual COMMUNITY (not just a home, but not limited to one or the other of a homo- or hetero-sexual home), like the Village in NYC, or Hillcrest in San Diego, or ANYWHERE in San Fransisco or Key West, have a on a child's eventual sexuality?
As a reference to American history, society has progressively developed a more and more liberal tolerance for so-called alternative lifestyles. In communities where the lifestyles are tolerated, but not dominant, like Tallahassee, or Jacksonville, or in Tampa, it seems to make sense to me that less children, we'll say "discover" (in consideration of those who feel like homosexuality is not a choice), that they are homosexual. As opposed to communities like those mentioned initially that a have a dominant presence of these alternative lifestyles, it might make sense that the lifestyle is dominant there because children are more exposed to and are liberated by its presence.
And so the question is posed, choice or not, do you feel that a child has a greater chance of discovering a same sex preference in a more liberal, or even specifically homosexually dominant community, than not? ..or, is the result imminent regardless of where you're raised?

Sex Offenders Challenge Rights
LAS VEGAS (Aug. 16) -- Eager to protect children from sexual predators, Nevada and other states across the nation are adopting laws that publicize the names of offenders on the Internet. This is COMPLETELY necessary. People in communities need to know what to be looking for, however the sex offenders are livid. But sex offenders say they have rights, too, and argue it's wrong to lump those guilty of minor offenses with the worst offenders. Some are challenging the laws. An offense is an offense, period. Clearly it was the offenders fault for getting themselves in the situation to begin with. It's their responsibility to take what ever cosequences come with that. Even if it is being "lumped" with worst offenders.

2008 Politicians Stop Campaign
Candidates Halt Campaigns for 9/11. In the afternoon, in New York, Obama and McCain were to come together to visit ground zero for a somber, silent wreath-laying in the pit that marks the largest loss of life in the attacks. I think these two candidates, today, doing this was truly respectful. They both agreed not to target each others' campaigns today due to the memoriam, and I think that it wouldn't be American if they didn't. I agree that in this time of the race, more than ever, the competition must be heated and for them to put that aside took a lot. I can say that it will not be neglected.

Driving Age May Be Raised
CHICAGO - Taking aim at a longstanding rite of passage for 16-year-olds, an influential auto safety group is calling on states to raise the age for getting a driver's license to 17 or even 18. I know that I've had my license for 2 years already and my vote may have been different if I was still sixteen, but I agree with the group. The age needs to be risen. 16 year-olds have higher crash rates than drivers of any other age. By restricting the age limit, the environment can be helped, too. Reducing the number of cars on the road can help in "going green," and getting pollution contained.

Diversity in 2050
Minorities, now about a third of the population, are expected to become the majority in 2042 and hit 54 percent in 2050. Hispanics, who make up about 15 percent of the population today, will account for 30 percent in 2050, according to the projections. I think it's amazing how the U.S. is the melting pot of the world. As a white woman, it will definitely be hard to adjust to a new world at age 58, when for most of my lifetime the whites were the majority. The diversity in this country, however, makes it the best place to live.

Sept. 11th Boston Memorial
A $3.5 million memorial honoring those who died has been dedicated at Logan International Airport. I think that the gesture of putting a memorial up outside of LIA is nice, however, it was this American city's security that failed to screen certain hijackers, who then proceeded to board two planes. I don't think that Boston should be emphasizing the fact that their system is flawed. As terrible as this sounds, it seems as though the airport feels they "needed" to do this, like they were being guilt-tripped for what occurred.

The War on Drugs
The war on drugs has been going on for a very long time. Government officials are doing everything they can to keep the drugs out of America. What I do not understand, is how are they going to punish people so harshly for less dangerous drugs like marijuana? They are giving longer jail sentences for crimes involved with marijuana than they are for cases like rape, robbery, and battery. Those three crimes right there will do more damage and injury than marijuana will ever do. Also, with some states actually being lenient with marijuana possession (California, Colorado), do you think that ultimately marijuana may actually become legal in all parts of America with some type of rule as to how much you can possess?

Violent Acts Caught On Camera (6 high school girls in the fight)
Many of you already know about the beating of a high school teen caught on camera. Six girls and two guys were involved in the crime. A girl was basically invited over to another girls house, a couple other girls showed up and started beating the girl up. Two teenage guys filmed it while the ordeal took place and are also being charged. Without help, the poor girl was trapped and beat relentlessly. The accusations include battery, assault, conspiracy, and kidnapping.
I personally think the teens should all be charged as adults. As young adults yourself, do you think they should be charged as adults so that they are scared straight? Or should the be charged as juveniles.

History in the dark?
One of the things that we have discussed in class before is the way that history is taught in schools. I think that many students education is being shown only one angle of history. While the books and teachers leave many important facts and information in the dark. How do you think this could effect college students after they graduate, and how does it effect high school students once they move on to college.

November is coming very quickly and there is a legitimate chance there will be a woman as the first president of the United States. Technology and Elections
Now a days, you could turn on the tube and catch most of the election debates on basic cable or even news radio's. It seems though if people in the past, if they wanted to know who they were voting for, they would have to catch the debates first hand, or even word of mouth. I do believe all this media, and modern technology exposure does hurt the candiates as well, there every move is watched and recorded by the media.
Growing technology
We have expanded beyond our wildest dreams when it comes to technology in this world. From the 19th century to the 20th century to now the 21 century is remarkable. In the 19th century our past people were the first to develope railroads, typewriters, etc. now a days we have huge planes that gets us to our location in no time. Thinking about it, what is in store for our children, is there alot more room to expand? The future holds the answer to all these questions.
Waiting
As soldiers of the United States, most are waiting the word of the presidental election. Novemeber is about 7 months away as of right now, thinking how these soldiers prepare there daily lifes not knowing when they are coming home or where they are going to be shipped until then seems a bit crazy. Basically, just saying these soldiers work hard during our every day life and respect is still there for them and there families back home.
History in Sports
Sport figures in the past were looked upon as idols, every sport, football, baseball, and basketball. Now that steriods are such a big deal, is this going to change the way america feels about sports being that sports was put at such a high level of respect. Athletes are tarnishing the games with all the spectlations of steriods and other illegal substances.
Race Between Hiliary vs. Obama
Now that the final stretch of the race between Hiliary vs. Obama is in its final stages, who does America feel better fits this country. I think the number of voters are definetly up from pervious elections because people are in for a change. There's history to be made this election.

THE OUTCOME OF THE ELECTION
Do you think many people are nervous for a girl running the country? Are do you think many people are more nervous for a black male to run the country? Well I think it's both. Many people religion doesn't believe in women having any control. They think it is the man job to have things in order. But if we were to have a black man president I think he will probably get assassinated because we never had a black man for president, and there are still racist people out there. So this election have to be the most interesting one. Do you think either one of them ready to take this big responsibility???

Wet feet/Dry feet
As most of us all know, the wet feet/dry feet law applies to the Cuban immigrants who are coming into Miami. The law states that if a Cuban immigrant touches land without being caught by authorities, than they are allowed to stay here in America. What I don't understand is how that law only applies to Cubans, I remember when I was in high school and I was driving in Key Biscayne, a ship that ran ground which was full of 200+ Hatian immigrants, all of the immigrants then began swimming to shore, jumping on the freeway and jumping in the back of trucks begging for freedom. The authorities caught them all and sent them back to their country. Post your opinions on this matter...

Hilary Vs Obama
As a African American women it is a hard decision on if I should vote for Hilary or Obama. As a women your first mind would say Hilary. However as a African American I feel obligated to vote for Obama. What affect do you think this election has had on both the women in this country as well as the African American community?

Security in America
Do you think security has gotten better since 911? Think about the airports ,train stations etc. Do you think as the years go by security will remain strict or lighten up? Hopefully they'll remain the same or advance a little because we never know when terrororists will strike again. In my opinion i think security should loosen up just a little.

Minimum wage
It is pretty easy to say the our border patrol isn't the best, but in order for the people of Mexico to make it over to America they have to be pretty strong and really want to come. I believe our government makes it just hard enough for Mexicans to come over so that the only ones that do make it are the strongest workers and will help our economy the most. This is why most Mexicans that make it over here are young men that have a lot of work to offer.
Border Cartel
On Friday March 28Th the Mexican government sent 2000 troops to the US-Mexico border city of Juarez. The reason they were sent there is because over 200 people have been killed because of the drug trafficking that goes on near this city. Do you think these troops will help our government fight the war on the border? Or do you think that these troops will get involved with the two rival cartels?
Uganda
Not too long ago TCC showed a video on the civil wars that have been going on for over twenty-two years in Uganda. I knew things in Africa were bad but the government in Uganda Squeezes millions of people in to overcrowded refugee camps that have a huge fatality rate due to unsanitary conditions. What can we do in order to help these people? The video takes us into those camps. A rebel group know as the LRG is terrorizing this country of good citizens. Those kids would do a lot if the just had the opportunities that we have. These are the people America should help.
Equal We Stand
I logged on to the computer today and I saw that today is the 40Th anniversary since Martin Luther king Jr. Was assassinated. He did alot for civil rights and I'm amazed at all the change that we have seen in those forty years. Even though I don't believe everyone is treated the same here in America I do believe we have come a long way and that we will continue to strive for everyone to be treated the same.

The Understandment of our time period!
History isnt the easiest subject but its not that hard to understand.Do you think the next generation of people will understand our time in history like the things in our time like 9-11, the war, the president the money hungry government? I think they wil because it's easier to relate to rather than he things in 1850.

Another War?
On march 30, 2008 North Korea told South Korea they would be ready for war if they tried to carry out a nuclear attack. Prior to the comments made on march 30,2008 North Korea have been testing missiles and threatened all South Korean warships that cross enemy lines. Is war the way to solve problems? Which side do you think the American armed forces will help?
Web Based Classes Friend or Foe?
In history class settings use to be as small as a living room, so students had direct contact with the teacher. Universities today offer web assisted classes. Advances in technology have made it so simple you don't have to go to class. They even offer a help line you can call that have tutors available 24 hours a day 7 day a week. Do you think this is a good or a bad thing? Do you learn better in a class room setting or on your own time?

Is it better to be a hero in history or is it better to protect your life?
You know how they say if you dont go to war you have to spend five years in prison and all this other bad stuff comes with it as well. Would you rather make history as the person who didnt stand up for your country or the person who is willing to risk their lives for America? Reminder this war has beed going on for more than 5 years. If they could give the soldiers a choice now to finish off the war (no telling when that is)or take prison time do you think most of them would leave? My opinion I would have never went but If I was one the troops over I would take the choice to leave.

Civil War
With the American Civil War being the biggest war fought on American soil, many changes were made to the US after the war was over. What do you think the US would be like if the South had won instead??

Electric Chair History!!
Remember when we was growing up and we used to read the newspaper about somebody getting the electric chair? Well I believe they are trying to use this method again for the immates on death row. I don't think that's a good idea if we do that then we are commiting a murder. That is not seeking justice, this is getting revenge or even. I don't we should swoop to their level. I would make them do the time in jail. Because no matter how we look at it, it's still a murder. They should not bring this back, just leave the electric chair in history.

War on Iraq!!??
The war should have been over. Bush never found weapons of mass destruction. I think it was just revenge from when his father was in office. This war is costing us too much of money as we have noticed in the gas prices. So How many more dead American soldiers and billions of dollars will it take before we finally say enough is enough? How many more dead American soldiers and billions of dollars will it take before the members of Congress say enough is enough? King Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, said that there was "a time of war." This, my fellow Americans, is not the time.

History Books!!!
Is all the information we get from our history books accurate? How do we know its true if the information is so old? Well I never understood that about history. I want to actually sit down and see where they got the documents from. I want to be there when the historians put the information down in history. I think we are all missing a big part of something. The things that don't make since to us in the books, can have an explanation for it somewhere. Of course we will never know the whole truth about America and it's history, but we still should know where all this is coming from.

Airplane CRASH, Makes Local History
Where were you when local history was made in Tallahassee Florida in February 2008? Well I was the sports commentator at a local high school baseball game, when all of a sudden in the middle of the game the lights went out at the ballpark. The other team players and fans were upset because they were attempting to start a comeback. Due to the power failure the game ended in Rickard’s favor 11 to 3, many people felt as if this was deliberate on Rickard’s part, but soon the news came. “There was a local plane crash on Ocala Road and Tennessee Street”, at first I didn’t believe it, but I announced it to the baseball game spectators anyway. In hindsight as I think the ballpark’s lights went out but the PA was still functioning, this probably looked very suspicious to them! Since the plane crash ended the baseball game, we left the park early, it was at this point in which my son and I decided to go see the crash, even after being warned to stay away on the radio. After about thirty-five minutes of crowded streets, police roadblocks and no traffic signals we decided to give up and get as far away from that area as we could. Even though the plane crash near FSU, was historical I only got to witness it on the news and in the local paper. Would you have tried to see the plane crash on Tennessee Street in person if you thought you could?
Could This Be “The Great Depression Part Two?”
In history many of us have known about or have learned about “The Great Depression.” America in the 1920’s, were in dyer straights but are we now headed toward an even a worst fate then our ancestors in early America. Is our current Recession in America, headed for a Depression in America? Can our America today survive a depression like that of the past? How can we expect a depression to effect us or our families in America?
The Historical History of the American Family
Often when I was a young child the “American Family” consisted of a father, a mother and some children. This was the ideal family in the old days; many people lived and fantasized about the idea of having an ideal family. Mother’s throughout history played a key role in the make-up of American family. Her role was that of homemaker, mother and comforter and most of all a noble wife. Today however the times have changed, now it is nobler to aspire to be successful professional women. It is almost as if the historical views of women are negative or old fashioned. The traditional family has even suffered a huge blow; families are now in a critical state or condition. Many families in present history are single parent house holds meaning either mom or dad and not both. Other families are either two women as parents of kids. Some are even two men as parents of kids; the effect of how this has impacted the society is apparently evident. It is my beliefs that our children are the ones who are really lose in this present day’s history. Women are important in the work place, yet it is note worthy to mention that they are absolutely critical in the historical growth of children and family. We Americans must ask ourselves what is more important to manufacture healthy families or to manufacture the ultimate business woman? What costs will the future children have to pay?

Summer Gas Prices...
As the Summer begins to approach how much will the price of a gallon of gas go up? It is irrelevant that when Summer is in season people spend more money on traveling and other things. Every Summer our gas prices shoot up. With regular gas at three dollars and twenty-five cents will our price per gallon reach more then four dollars this summer? It's time for everyone to buy hybrids and flex-fuel cars so we can preserve our economy, our world, and our wallets.

History In The Making "Fidel Castro Resigns"
A few days after Fidel Castor decided to call it quits, many Cuban people are still leary of the country and its future direction. Many are over joyed and just as many if not more are skeptical because his brother is filling his shoes at the present time. Many Cubans knew that his brother lead the Cuban military and carried out many viscuios acts against the people for his brother, now they still don't trust him. Many Cuban Americans want to go back home if not to stay, atleast to visit but they can't because things are to uncertain right now. Eighter way this is a historical day forall Cuban Americans every where.

What's Next??
What do you think about the campaigning and what is the outcome going to be between obama and clinton? Well I think obama has a better chance of winning because he just won 8 states, but we will never know the outcome until its over. As a matter of fact we have 2 more major states voting on march 2nd, and clinton need to win both of them in order to stay in the election. I can't wait to find out the outcome of this election.

{English Is Quickly Becoming The Second Language Of Advanced Education}.
Well my fellow students I, have seen the trend of teaching very young children to become acclimated with computers. Many times before they can even write or spell very well. It is pretty embracing to say the least when I must go to my teenage daughter to get help operating my cell phone, laptop, wireless internet and even some times help with my e-mails. Computer literacy is not just a household language it is a Universal Language used around the world. I think that soon history will consider it, one of the most common language skills’s a necessity around the world. In the realm of “Higher Learning” it is impossible to get around using this new “Universal Language.” Because of the importance of communication, many college students speak Computer Literacy as their first language. As a second language many chose “English.” No matter how old you get, I think it is one of the easiest Languages to learn. Or at-least the most exciting language to learn.
Blogging Is The New History
Blogging is infectious just ask me I know. It is a way to express your views on almost any subject matter. Take for instance the any subject that you feel very strongly about then go on the internet and see how many people have already posted a blog about it. It is my opinion that blogging is in-fact historical because of how many people it has impacted as-well-as the instant ability for people to find out your taught's on a particular matter, in the old days we would write things down in a journal {for men} or a dairy {for women}: but today because a the rapid technological advances the world is going through people can view and respond to or taughts, proposals, our actions and our very nature in real time not just way after the fact. Blogging has impacted the future by helping chose presidential candidates, helping us to find missing children and exploited children as well, aiding in the arrest and conviction of some criminals, aiding in the connection of people and families around the world, it is even more useful as a teaching tool for public schools and colleges alike and most of all if you can image a way to use a Blog You To Could Just Make History!
Women on the Move!
For any middle age women it is easy to see why women are on the move. Women have come up a long hard road of domination, segregation, separation, isolation and oppression. A little more than 50 years ago women were given the right to vote, although I’ am sure at that time even after being given the right to vote their male counter-part probably forced many women not to vote. Or even many men intimidated the women to vote a certain way. Gone are those times however. Gone are the days when a man could have his wife arrested for not doing enough work. Fast forward a few decades and now we are witnessing the first lady too run for president of the United States of America; The very same place that treated women with utter contempt. How ironic is that, lets just say very ironic. We should all hope that if a woman is elected she want impart on men what they deserve or do to men, what was done to women. I know it its not really possible but it would be justice for all women. To have a women president would definitely be historical because she would be the first and most powerful women in the world. She would be the head of the greatest super power and military force on earth. I think she would also bring true compassion back to America and to the American People. Many women of the past have longed to see such a day, only to come up empty handed. Now the dreams of many women can and will be realized all because one lady “Hilary Clinton” ran for president in 2008.
The Injustice of Schools Teaching History
It is now apparent to me that the historical view in which I was taught all though-out my Elementary, Middle and High School career was grossly and seriously suspect. It is a shame that now after forty years of living and learning that I ‘m just learning these more in-depth things about my people during slavery time, during the 19 and the 20 century. The blame cannot all be placed on the public school system; it should be placed on society and on me. The school system bare the blame because it was all to willing to teach things they knew were not accurate and or not complete. I think that historical teachings and history text books were purposely flawed so that Young African American would not revolt. This was done to keep us from truly connecting with the horrific times of slavery and the life for blacks in early American history. Perhaps the timing is just right, maybe in my youth growing up in the late 60’s, I might have taken the knowledge in a wrong and hostel way. At any cost I would have liked to have made that decision for myself. Society I feel shares the blame because it was politically incorrect to view or teach young black kids their true impact on the modern world and their right to stake claim in America because of our African American fore father’s blood, sweat and tears. And lastly the blame must stop hear with me because the “logical fallacy” I committed most at the time was: Believing what was taught as absolute authority, not questioning the source, as well as me not do any other research myself.
Inclosing: It is now my duty to question everything and every source to understand how history affects me and family today and in the future.
Inclosing: It is now my duty to question everything and every source to understand how history affects me and family today and in the future.

Women and the Devastation they faced In History
In class we’ve studied history and how women were viewed. It is hard for me to believe that it was a common practice to treat women so harshly. I have always thought that it was bad for slaves during that period, many men, women and children slaves were thought of as less then cattle. So it is just now that I realize that when we are talking about women not having any rights we are in fact talking about “white women.” I don’t say this lightly as I’m typing this post a light comes on that helped me to think of the many Negro slave women who were rapped, beaten, tortured, force to bare their rapist children, humiliated and just plan old abused. It is hard enough for me to think of what prejudices that my mother had to endure when growing up in Georgia in the early 1940’s. Regrettably I must say that women over all suffered horrendous atrocities at the hand of men; What happened to white women does not even compare to what the white men in history has done to black women! It is an honor to know there are so many black women that are educated, positive and strong. As for the young African American Women they should learn more about the true history of the black women and be proud of them. This will serve them well because it would help them, and all women to respect themselves and not let men use them in this way any more. Men in the past use to be bold about the disdain they had for women. Now we just down play their disrespect for women. Men of old use to brutally forcibly rape women; now many just do it through lies, deceit, and trickery, slander, exploiting them, the internet and many other clever and underhanded ways. So I say to all women wake up and respect you, because men through-out history has not, for I to am man!

History Does Not = His, Story
Based off of what I'm getting from class and from the book. A lot of the things that we learned about history was only a man's story and not the history of me and my people. When I was in school we were never thought to think critically about the things we were learning about history. Twenty years ago it was assumed that if it was in the books it had to be accurate, boy were we ever wrong. This generation are thinkers and learners from a powerful information age and with this wealth of great information comes great responsibility to go deeper in their quest for true history for all people.
