It seems that especially now-a-days (though not exclusively by any stretch of the Imagination) the governments main job is to keep themselves and their constutents well paid. This concept of being a politician as a job is not what the founding fathers intended, in fact George Washington was outspokenly against it. In the earlier years of this country being a politician was a side job. Every one who was a politician in the House or Senate met for a set period of time during the year then returned to their towns and continued their real job. The Politicians have become too familiar with loop holes and easy money that they don't look out for the people they are supposed to be representing. Instead the people of America have become a bank with no limit on with draws, in the eyes of our so called Representatives.

You can take all the way to a really small example. As a staff writer on the TCC Talon, I have recently gotten a huge inside look at the inner workings of TCC's SGA. Not only do they control the budget for TCC Students, the executive board of SGA get an hourly wage?! My question is, "What are they getting paid for? Going to school?"
Oh yeah! SGA is a really tough job. The Government is always finding ways to put money in their pockets, even if it means screwing the people who cant get food stamps. Damn bailout. Just another way to get Bush out of hot water.

If you read the Talon, you know I have. Dude, the TCC SGA is SOOO corrupt, it ain't even funny.
Secret elections due to lack of laws for a subject? Heck, through the course of our investigation, we found out that they were using a second constitution that hadnt even been made known to the public! We got our hands on it, and they've hated us ever since!

I think what ended up happening is that government has a much bigger role today than it did over 200 years ago, politicians today have to invest much more time and resources in order to not only run for office but to also keep their office. I believe politicians do deserve a form of compensation for dedicating so much, but at the same time it seems that they only dedicate time and resources to get elected. I don't believe that politicians don't care about the people they represent I just think that they have too much loyalty to the rich people who spent so much money on their campaign that they continuously try to please them because they know they won't be in office forever and have to count on those rich people for money for future campaign and possible employment once they get out of office.
