Back in the day, when Europe ruled the Earth and the new world hadn't ben discovered, religion played a big role in the establishment of laws; things were extremely inhumane and very underdeveloped. So why id it that the America's(when they established freedom) decided to base their laws on the same beliefs they were trying to escape? Were they better off never having any type of religion? Even though the US government was established on religious beliefs, should they abolish all religion laws to respect the new age of hte 21st century?

I think, Kayla, that religion is very important for society. Now laws that say you must go to church may be out of place, but our basic laws that make drive bys illegal are just humane laws that happen to coincide with religious laws such as the Ten Comandments. The Religion laws back in the day were merely distorted by corrupt kings and officials. The laws based on religious teachings that exist today are the only thing keeping many people from going all Anarchy in Tally.

The point is that this country was legalized by religious people and we seem to have forgotten that. Throughout the bill of rights and the constitution, you see "under God" and "in God we trust." The point is, the government now has sckewed everything the original said, because people have come to this country and say they dont like it.
It's not a matter of taking religion out the law, its that religion already has and we are not the same country we once were.

I believe it should be left up to each individual to decide exactly how they want religion to affect their life, if at all. I'm not a preacher and I'm not going to argue the existence of God or Buddha but the whole idea of being free implies that we are free to believe whatever we see fit. It's easy for someone who is rich and healthy to denounce the existence of a supreme being but for the poor single father diagnosed with cancer who has to provide for three children the belief of the existence of a supreme being who is just, caring, and help those in need is the only thing keeping him sane. Religion may not be a verifiable science, but it's the science of hope and for s
some people hope is all that's left.
