History in Sports

Sport figures in the past were looked upon as idols, every sport, football, baseball, and basketball. Now that steriods are such a big deal, is this going to change the way america feels about sports being that sports was put at such a high level of respect. Athletes are tarnishing the games with all the spectlations of steriods and other illegal substances.

I agree, Back then athletes were idolized a lot more than today. Steriods is ruining sports and how fans view athletes.

Both statements are true, and in a way it all seems like an endless cycle. One player is known for their skills and everyone would like to be up to par with him/her. So what do they do? Steroids! However, the problem lies in the fact that we don't even know who is and who isn't taking them any more. People have found more and more ways to hide them. What does this all mean? Well sadly enough, it has come to the point where if a player is surpassing other players in skill we automatically bring out the medical book and accuse them of steroids. It's safe to say athletes are ruining themselves. Hence the endless cycle.

We have discussed in class about Jackie Robinson having an impact on history. He and many other athletes of his time were idols as well. America loves sports. steroids or not baseball fans will still watch baseball and young boys and girls will still look up to them. If you feel it is neccesary to put an asterisk by a record of an athlete fine. The government right now though should be focusing on many things other than steroid use in baseball.

I agree with the fact that there are too many athletes out there ruining the game but you can not hold that agaisnt all of the athletes as a whole. Some of them make wise decisions and actually care about their careers.

I really don't see the big deal in the use of steroids in sports. They are not hurting the economy at all (ok, maybe by purchasing illegal drugs). When I watch football, I want to see huge guys smashing the crap out of each other. I understand the argument in how steroids is ruining baseball, America's past time. But it's not like it is just one person using steroids. There are so many athletes using steroids.
